x307........speaking the truth in love

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

When we understand that the Bible clearly states that these gifts of ministry have been given "unto every one of us" or literally unto "mankind" (see Psalm 68:18) We can now understand the result that the Lord is looking for in giving these gifts to all of us.

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

They are given to build us up--to edify--add to and build up the body--literally a continuous system of ongoing ministry that is endless.--But there is another ultimate goal of these ministry gifts--

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:

When we reach this unity of faith we will become this "perfect man" that is, the body will be whole--each part functioning together in unity for the purpose of God in the earth--"perfect man" is defined --

teleiov teleios {tel'-i-os} adj

perfect 17, man 1, of full age 1; 19

1) brought to its end, finished 2) wanting nothing necessary to completeness 3) perfect 4) that which is perfect 4a) consummate human integrity and virtue 4b) of men 4b1) full grown, adult, of full age, mature

We will then be "full grown" as the body of Christ--when all the members are working together in their respective gifts and the individual gifts are respected by all--

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

But apparently there are doctrines that will lead us astray from this "perfect man"--doctrines that will deceive us--lead us astray from this unity of the Spirit and gifts.

15 But,speaking the truth in love may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

The whole goal of our endeavor here is to do the following--to "speak the truth in love" This is the method or way that the ministry gifts will be used to their fullest potential. All Christians--must be always constantly doing this--"speaking the truth in love"

Paul stated it this way in Romans chapter 12--another area in which he described the gifts of ministry--

5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. 9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. 15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. (Romans 12:5-16)

The brotherly love described in the Bible is the key factor--the "glue" that holds all these gifts together. Where there is a lack of gifts--where there is a lack of the recognition of the gifts the the Lord has placed inside of every member of the body--there is truly a lack of love.

It is sorrowful that we attempt to contain the love of God within doctrines. These doctrines have done nothing but limit the move that the Lord desires. It holds masses of potential ministers under rules and doctrine that is unholy and un-Biblical and outside of the love of God. The love of God declares that we are one body and each of us has a part to play in order to function fully.

But we can "grow up" if we choose to speak the truth in love! The goal is to be like Jesus--the Christ--the anointed one of God

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

If we speak the truth in love we can be like Jesus Himself--but we cannot do this individually--we must do this together--

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

the whole body fitly joined together--

1) individually 1a) each, every, any, all, the whole, everyone, all things, everything 2) collectively 2a) some of all types

afe haphe {haf-ay'} n f

------joint 2; 2

1) bond, connection

------supply 2; 2

1) a supplying, supply

Every bond in the body is meant to supply meaning and definition to another and to function in precise unity with all the others...

"....according to the effectual working in the measure of every part,....."

This "effectual working" is defined as follows--

energeia energeia {en-erg'-i-ah} n f

------ working 4, effectual working 2, operation 1, strong 1; 8

1) working, efficiency 1a) in the NT used only of superhuman power, whether of God or of the Devil

It is the supernatural energy that God supplies--and it is available and necessary for every part and member of the Body of Christ--no one is excluded--because it is the "working" ---the "ministry"---- of every part--

"the measure of every part"

God has supplied a measure of grace unto every part of the Body--but we have already established that this measure is according to......

7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. (Ephesains 4:7)

The measure we have been given is the limitless measure of the gift of Christ, and it is for the purpose--

"....maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love...."

The final function and purpose of the gifts is to build up-- to grow the body toward the goal of love--the goal of "agape". We are meant to literally grow up in the use of our gifts so that we may be more and more like God himself.

1John 4:16 "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him."

God is love, and we are told that he who "dwelleth" or abides in--makes his rest and home in love ---has God living inside of him. The gifts of ministry are not meant to rule the church, Christ is the one and only head of the church. The gifts of ministry are meant to lead us to work together in the final goal of love--to be like God to be like Jesus the Christ the anointed one of God. They are the earthly witnesses of the love of God--they are the tools of ministry to grow the body up into the perfect love that God has and is ---and the love that we are meant to become.

Additions ...... Focus on the word of God in this area of love, and taking it seriously in order for the gifts to work, is obedience. This obedience on our part, will bring the gifts to work faster and deeper in the world. God is not looking at our record, or our appearance, He is waiting for the adherance to His word in our lives so He can move. The Holy Spirit is truth, but He says the church is not ready for the truth. The church has gotten glamorous but there is garbage inside He says, they have been vague and lazy on the ministry gifts, and have gotten it all wrong as a result. I saw a picture of a dazzling garbage pail, the holy spirit lifted the lid, and said but see,, there is garbage inside,, and it smelled, soda bottles etc. This is how he sees the church its all dressed up but the ministry gifts are stiffled so and it is not being preached, He sees it as garbage.

Additions to study .... Romans 15:7 Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God. [receive the gifts we each have] 15;6 One mind and one mouth to the glory of God. Honor in the body, there must be an atmosphere of honor in the body for the gifts to work. Romans 12:5 1 Corinthians 12:23 Colossians 2;23 1 Thess 4:3-4 ! peter 3:7 2 Peter 1:17 This is the greater integrity teaching. The church has a higher calling than we now believe--but it is there--waiting for us--if we will beleive in the minsitry of one another and if we will beleive that Christ will truly lead us.
