1. Is it in the Bible?

CALLED TO PREACH.........Yes........

Ac 16:10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

2. What do we believe it means?

A preacher is someone who gives speeches to a large group, usually in church.

3. What does it really mean?

The definition of "preach--or preacher--in the Greek New testament is simply someone who proclaims a message to others.

"Preaching " is simply speaking or proclaiming. Just like any new testament ministry, it is a gift which God gives to all of us. Our experience gives us a very narrow definition of preaching. when we hear the word we think of a pulpit--Sunday meeting--a large group--none of which is inherent in the word or Biblical example of preaching.

Like any calling it is for any believer at any time--and not authority over others.

the biggest missing ingredient to our definition of "preaching" is the fact the Bible calls us to preach or proclaim--out to the world....

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! (Romans 10:15)

the Greek "sent" is "apostello". "Preaching" is meant to be a tool of the apostle ship of the church. From the Bible point of view, preaching was not within the church, it was outside the church--bringing the Gospel tot he lost--not exercising authority over believers--!
