1. Is it in the Bible?

2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

2. What do we believe it means?

The ministry of reconciliation is a ministry for all believers to have and work in. All believers are meant to witness the Gospel.

3. What does it really mean?

this concept is absolutely true. It is one of the many areas of the new testament which clearly give ministry to every believer. However, there is a "dark side" to this teaching. It is like handing someone a bunch of nails, and telling them to build a house. there is something missing. If you have nails--you certainly need a hammer--right?!

the bible is clear that all believers should be "reconciling " people to God by carrying the Gospel to others. However, the bible says that the "tools" that all believers have been given are the ministry gifts. these tools--working together in different people--are how we are supposed to carry on the function of reconciliation.

We have heard this taught from the pulpit in this manner:

"Everyone seems to think they have a ministry--well--here--you can have this ministry of reconciliation--BUT--don't go around thinking you are the pastor!!"

It is the often found church teaching that encourages on one hand--but "fits' into he system of church and so ties down the believer. Somewhat like standing on someone's neck, and telling them to get up and run!
